Spectroscopy equipment. The collection includes several hand-held spectroscopes, several small telescopes, a portable sun dial, a folding sextant, a grating, and an astrolabe. The astrolabe was a reproduction that is an incorrect (nonworking) copy which was given to the Huggins. This photo does not show the entire collection.

Sarah Frances Whiting, first director of the Wellesley College (Whitin) Observatory

We do not have any photograph of Sarah Whiting at this time but we do have these photographs of the observatory that she helped to establish at Wellesley College (Wellesley, Massachusetts).

The current entryway at the Whitin Observatory bears this plaque. It reads
